Being Truly Happy And At Peace - What Does It Mean?
Being happy means so many things to different people. We come from all walks of life, including different cultures. I am in a profession where I come in contact with a multitude of people everyday, you might say my job is customer service related. Ive been able to observe individuals in all walks of life and in varying stages of their development and health. Somehow maybe Ive touched a life to make it just a little better.
Its pretty easy to spot that person who is angry at the world. Sometimes nothing that I or anyone else can say seems to make a difference. What made him or her this angry? Most of the time, I believe it is in some way loss of control. We as human beings want to feel that we have control of the situation, even though we may not admit it. As you observe a young child it is pretty easy to tell when he or she wants something and cant get it. The elderly sometimes cant control their environment any longer and have to depend on family, friends, or health care providers. Just the other day I was in a restaurant when a young girl sat at a table next to me. Within a few minutes her father sat at a table behind me. When asked by the mother why he sat over there, the unhappiness poured out of his mouth. He did not want to sit next to those other people and a few other choice words. Now, if he did not want to sit there, why didnt he ask his daughter to come over to the other table? Angry At The World is what I call it.
We cant control every situation that we are faced with but we somehow have to accept it to be truly happy. Each day we face some sort of loss, hurt or grief and its hard some days to count your many blessings. Weve all heard of the stages of grief and I wont go into that here but just a reminder that it ends with acceptance. True happiness has to come from within. Figure out what it is that is important to you and do your best to stay focused on it. We have all made mistakes but it does not do any good to look back and dwell on the past. To learn from our mistakes is usually a very good lesson.
In closing, I would like to say stay in tune on what is important to you. When you are angry at the world it does affect others including those you love and even strangers all around you. Dont be like the man sitting at the table behind me; invite your family or friend to join you peacefully. I bet he did not even enjoy that meal that he spent good money on.
