A Bundle of Love From Home
My husband went to Kenya, Africa a few summers ago on a Missions trip for two weeks. It was the first time we had ever been away from one another for that long of a time. I was really excited for him, as he had always wanted to see Africa. I also knew that his trip might be an emotional one with new experiences and opportunities.
I wanted to support my husband and encourage him. I wanted to be a part of his memorable experience. So, I contacted various people (mostly some of his friends) with an idea I had. The idea was that they would each write a note of encouragement, friendship, a humorous anecdote, a Scripture verse.or whatever they felt like including and seal it in an envelope. I had letters for him for every day that he would be away. I did this all in secret until the night before his departure when I presented them to him.
Offering my husband a stack of letters from home was a special way for me to let him know that I loved him, and that he had the support of everyone who cared for him and we would be praying for him.
When my husband returned from Africa, he told me what a wonderful gift the letters from home were. He said that he could hardly wait to read each days letter or to see whom it would be from. Giving my husband this stack of letters from home was a gift for both of us. It was a gift to me, because it gave me joy to compile them and know that he would have a piece of home with him while he was so very far away. It was a gift for my husband because of the genuine love offered to him by others during a life-changing experience in his life.
You can never underestimate the influence, power, or strength your words will have on someone else and when you feel you have no other gift to givegive the gift of your heart through words; as we did
